Petronas Towers and a Possible Break In

May 24, 2007
Kuala Lumpur - Day 19

I was woken up by HP today telling me it was 7:00am and we were late. Thankfully, we weren't the last
ones out the door. A small group of us had planned to visit the Petronas towers in the morning, and since tickets are limited to around 1000 people per day, we promptly rushed off to a bus stop after a quick breakfast of oily noodles, eggs and toast.

I have to admit, the towers weren't as impressive as I thought it w
ould be. The skybridge was located on the 41st level - only halfway up the building. It did have a nice view of KL however, and it was quite amazing to see how urbanized the city is.

Later on we grabbed some lunch at the famous Madam Kwan's in KLCC, one of the major shopping centers in KL. And then, under the (not so good) suggestion of a waiter, we visited a couple museums. Like in Malacca, I find the museums very disappointing, but even more so. Most of the displays consisted of mannequins depicting different cultural scenes and at times, parts of these scenes would be missing.

The group headed towards Time Square next, and as the name suggests, it is a shopping mall worthy of comparison to those in Hong Kong. If I remember correctly, it boasts around 14 floors of shops, an imax theater, and an empty amusement park.

We then headed back to catch a glimpse of the Chinatown market, a nightly phenomenon similar to those in Hong Kong, albeit on a smaller scale. Cheap goods and pirated items could be found everywhere. I snagged myself some bookmarks and key chains.

Later in the night, I went up to my hotel room with Linda and Trevor to drop off my goods and discovered my room door was wide open. A little scared of what or who could still be lurking inside, we got one of the hotel staff members to come up and check it out. Unfortunately, he simply turned on the lights and waited outside while the three of us looked around. On the bright side, nothing was stolen. I wonder if my door was open because I didn't lock it properly or if someone really broke in. I didn't want to stay alone in there afterwards so I followed the others to an internet cafe before heading back where I watched TV until HP returned.
